Before the Move: Check Cattle Body Condition and Temperament
Choosing the right time to move your cattle to a new grazing paddock will improve your herd's average daily gain performance.
Calculating your stock density and paddock size is important, but you'll also want to look for these visual cues.
Check the gut fill by looking at the rumen. The rumen sits on the left side of the cow just in front of the hip. If that space is full and widened, the cow is receiving the proper amount of forage. If that space is indented, they likely aren't receiving the amount of food they need to stay content.
Check the temperament. If they're standing at the polywire waiting for you, they're likely ready to move to a more lush pasture.
